Baseball Scores on Your Mobile Phone

June 28th, 2007 MobileFreak

MLB Mobile WebsiteWith baseball season in full swing, and the MLB All Star game just around the corner, now is a great time to check out the mobile version of the Major League Baseball website.

Thankfully, this mobile website has a simple, clean interface, with minimal images or graphics. This helps the pages load quickly, and fans can get their information and move on.

The mobile MLB site provides nine links from the home page, beginning with the schedule and current scores for that day, baseball news, and current standings. Considering most mobile users are likely to be checking the latest score for their team, the order of the links makes sense.

MLB en Espanol

In addition to these basic, yet essential links, MLB mobile also provides a link to a Spanish version of the latest headlines around the league. Major League Baseball clearly has a large Spanish-speaking fan base, and I’d expect the Spanish section of this mobile site to grow beyond just news in the next year or two.

In addition to the standard mobile website itself, Major League Baseball also provides other mobile services including scoring and news updates by text message (SMS), live in-game coverage (dubbed “GameDay”), baseball ringtones, and live audio and video updates for the cell phone. More information about all the MLB mobile services can be found here, and the mobile team even launched a blog last month to keep users up to date on mobile services. Now that is nice to see!
