A month after we highlighted the find.mobi mobile search site, dotMobi is putting it up for sale. As reported in a press release on Wednesday, the site has “outgrown the lab”, and is now ready to deliver “significant value” to the buyer.
How much do you think it will go for? $500,000? $1,000,000? More?
Note from the press release all that buyers might be getting:
dotMobi is soliciting proposals for the disposal of all or parts of the find.mobi assets, which include the mobile web site (find.mobi), web crawler algorithm and code, mobile site detection algorithm and code, parking / landing page detection algorithm and code, adult content classifier learning algorithm and code, and the find.mobi name / site address.
Submit your guess in a comment to this post by Monday, May 19, 2008. The top 3 entries closest to the published sale amount will win a MobileMammoth T-Shirt! All entries must be posted by 11:59pm ET (GMT -0500) on May 19.

February 9th, 2008
In case you have not checked lately, there are a host of mobile sites and services that are making everyday life easier for thousands of people just like us. To highlight just a sample, I compiled the following list of 71 things you can do from your mobile phone.
I wanted to make this interactive, so I temporarily left the links off of a few items. Why? So that we can learn from you and everyone else out there. If you have recommendations for what mobile sites or tools to use to accomplish any of the items below, leave a comment to this post and share your knowledge. After February 9, ten of the highest quality commenters will be sent a free MobileMammoth t-shirt, AND I will add the links to the remaining items in the list.
Happy mobile browsing…

My 5 favorite mobile sites (in no particular order):
Google Reader Mobile
I tried various mobile RSS reading applications but the lack of a sync with the
desktop made a web based solution the only practical way forward.
Digg via DiggRiver
It’s simply a very nicely formatted way to read Digg on the move.
NetVibes home page
Customized exactly to my needs this is by far the cleanest, quickest and most
reliable start page I’ve found for my PDA. Google’s mobile /ig page cannot begin
to compete with this established brand in web portals.
A cut-down mobile friendly IMDB
search
As a film buff I hate the fact that there’s no live version of IMDB for mobile
users. This comes pretty damned close.
Picasa Mobile
Another Google mobile page that replaced a mobile application on my device. Why
carry a picture viewer when I’m already carrying a browser? My pics are in my
Picasa account and I can simply open this Favorite URL and check them out or
bring them up on screen to show friends.

My nominations.
1) MSN Mobile (http://mobile.msn.com/) - I’m not a Microsoft fanboy. I think Vista and “Plays for Sure†and “Windows Genuine Advantage†are all abominations. But the the MSN mobile team has been doing some awesome stuff lately. The MSN mobile portal blows away Yahoo, Google and AOL’s efforts in News, Weather, Sports, Maps, Directions and Entertainment. Check out the Live MLB coverage (Fox Sports > MLB > Todays Games > Details). Every Spaces blog comes with a mobile version enabled by default. The MSNBC News section is the best US based mobile news site in terms of depth of coverage. MSN’s weak areas are search and email, but the rest rocks.
2) Bloglines (http://bloglines.com/mobile) - Buggy but in combination with Opera Mini still the best way to read RSS feeds on a mobile.
3) Mowser.com (http://mowser.com/) This site came out of nowhere to offer a transcoder to challenge Google and Skweezer plus it’s meta-search engine, a portal and a bookmarking service (too bad it doesn’t work with Opera Mini bookmarklets). Watch this space, I bet Russ has some more mobile magic up his sleaves.
4) Mobilised (http://mobilised.net/) - The first mobile bookmarking site that actually works for me. Use it with the Opera Mini Bookmarklet. This site as the potential to be THE mobile Digg, IF it achieves critical mass.
5) Classic Google Mobile Search (http://www.google.com/m?pref=s&uipref=2) The original, still available at that exact url, not the new version that buries mobile web results under tons of transcoded content.
7. Andrew, 2007-08-30
1) Flight Stats - The most complete airline site there is period! They have Flight Status, Departures & Arrivals, Flight Status by Route, Flight Alerts, Airline Info, Airport Info, Security Wait times, Weather, Current Airport Delays . A must for any frequent flyer!
2) Bank of America Mobile - This site offers information on any Bank of America type of account, online banking and bill payment, and branch and ATM locator.
3) FatWallet - Shopping forums that contain the best freebies and discounts that can be found online, over the phone or in the stores.
4) Wikipedia - Access the worlds largest online encyclopedia on your mobile.
5) FunForMobile
