Find a Parking Spot From Your Phone
July 27th, 2007 MobileFreak
I used to live just south of San Francisco. After my first meeting in the city, I quickly learned I had to give my myself an extra half-hour to find a parking spot that was even remotely convenient. Anyone that lives in New York City, Los Angeles, or Chicago knows what I’m talking about.
Apparently, 19-year old entrepreneur Ben Sann knew as well, and he did something about it. Mr. Sann created BestParking.com, which lets users quickly locate the closest available parking garages.
We test drove the mobile website of BestParking, and found it to be extremely simple to use, though somewhat lacking in features just yet. After selecting the city, the user provides a street address of where they are headed, as well as the start time and duration of their stay. Based on that information, the site returns the closest parking garages, including the address and applicable rates. Users can also select a specific result, and the site provides the address and phone number of the garage, which can be particularly helpful for mobile users.
Assuming potential bandwidth issues can be resolved, the mobile version would be dramatically improved if it were able to integrate maps into the search results. This would be particularly useful in large cities, where physical addresses can often be very difficult to find for the occasional visitor.
