IGloo Mobile Portal Adds Mobile Social Networking

August 21st, 2008 MobileFreak

iGloo is a mobile community and directory of mobile websites where users can chat, use email, and find topics of interest across the mobile web. iGloo also includes a dating area and mobile social networking functions (“iGloo Friends”) so friends can keep in touch and meet up from wherever they are.

iGloo has some strong base functionality, but still has a long way to go. We noticed way too many errors (including html code displaying in plain text on the page) for it to be ready for prime time just yet. But we’ll keep an eye on them and we are rooting for a big improvement real soon.

If you think you can overlook the errors, go ahead and take it for a ride and let us know what you think!

This company is stupid. Someone sent my daughter a message for her b-day and she ends up getting added to this company, which charges 10.00 a month and you can not get a phone number to speak with someone to make sure it is cancelled. They tell you to go to their website but they do not tell you the site address. Jerks.

Hi Carol,
Sorry to hear that someone is charging your daughter’s cell phone. There are quite a few mobile services out there that are a bit tricky in how they get their customers.
What I can tell you is that it certainly is not MobileMammoth. In fact, we don’t charge anything as our text message service is absolutely free. Please double check what is showing on the cell phone bill, and you may want to contact your carrier to dispute the charge.
Good Luck!

The same thing happened to me. I got a random txt with something about movie reviews. I never responded but began being charged $10 a month! What a scam. After a bit of googling I found their homepage and called them but they never answer, just a message that all operators are busy and to go to the website. This is the website:
http://igloomobile.com/
To Cancel, SEND STOP to 33886
Sprint said they can not remove the service as it is a third party service. At least I txted them STOP but have found no way to yell at someone and demand my money back, sneaky mean jerks!!

Tina,
Thank you for sharing your experiences with iGlooMobile.com and how to stop those charges. That’s too bad that companies think they can still try to get away with that and stay in business for very long. Their website is a bit different from the service we reviewed in our blog post, so it’s still not clear to me if that is the same company.
Regardless, always be careful when signing up for services or even providing your cell phone number!

Cheers,
MobileFreak

I too got charged $10 a month for igloomobile. It is not this site, but a Movie Review site. I called Sprint and complained, Sprint DID take the charge off as I stated I did NOT subscribe and that it was a total scam.. Sprint credited my account and assured me they would BLOCK them from any future txt and/or charges to any of my phones (I have 5). Call your Cell phone companies right away and insist it is an “illegal” charge and they must remove it and DON’T pay any future charges. There was a email for igloomobile and I did email them. I didn’t give them my phone number but told them I was going to report them to the attorney general. I think we all need to complain to Consumer Affairs so that Consumer Affairs can mark them as scammers and take the appropriate actions. Again it is NOT this site, but igloomobile.com
