IMDB on Your Mobile, Maybe

August 9th, 2007 MobileFreak

I cannot count how many times I’ve tried, unsuccessfully, to recall the name of a particular movie, or an actor in a movie. If only I could have IMDb with me wherever I went.

Of course I can. It is 2007 after all.

I do have a couple issue with the mobile website of IMDB, however. For one, why is the URL so unintuitive? It uses an actual IP address. This is even more important when you are browsing from your mobile phone, where you essentially have to have it bookmarked, since you’ll never remember this web address. Just register IMDb.mobi, or use m.idmb.com, and be done with it.

The other issue I had was that it did not work. All queries cameup with no results. I’d love to hear if it works for anyone else. Let us know if you have any luck!

Tried it but it doesn’t work for me. All searches just return a link to IMDB.

Try http://wap.arune.se/imdb/index.php instead. Great mobile IMDB alternative.

I cannot get it to work either. I tried http://wap.arune.se/imdb/index.php but I don’t like it. No full profile, no message boards, and you have to click to see movies by decade. I’m not impressed at all. I am going to email imdb and see if they have any comment.

Utterly amazing, as IMDB existed for 3 years before the web was invented (newsgroups).

iPhone draws the line, as they want to sell the app…information wants to be free…

The link you had was probably a sdpoof page to capture logons. Suspect someone is hankering for IMDB Pro access…

Yes unable to resolve 205.130.125.89 in a reverse dns lookup. So my theory is if you cant even get info on the domain then its a ghost and like previously mentioned probably DANGEROUS. It is scary to think about how many people have ZOMBIE PC’s controled and used by hackers for all of their dastardly and unlawful activities. Get a firewall and know how to use it. Get good ANTI SPYWARE and antivirus protection… and know how to use it. and visit http://www.grc.com easy to understand security basics. Secure you machines people!

Well, now it’s mid-2009 and it’s still not easy to find a good mobile version of IMDB. Not too many other mobile movie review sites, either. Leastwise, none with a really big volume of film reviews in them.

Sigh.

http://www.mdog.com/bookmarks/imdb/htmlsite/

The above website searches IMDB and gives the results in the same format as on a PC web browser. I just bookmarked it on my phone. Haven’t really used it much but was happy with the few searches I’ve done so far.
