Is The Google Phone Just a Dream?
March 25th, 2008 MobileFreak
According to Taiwanese handset maker High Tech Computer (HTC), that’s exactly what it will be.
HTC is one of a few handset makers reportedly developing a phone to run on the Google mobile platform (dubbed “Android”). According to a recent news report, the HTC handset will be called Dream. Here are the other characteristics of the Google Dream phone according to the unnamed source close to the situation:
- Just over 5 inches long, 3 inches wide
- Large touchscreen
- Full QWERTY keypad, which will retract out from under the screen
- Web navigation keys just below the screen
- Expected to hit the market towards the end of 2008
As reported earlier, Samsung is also working on a Google mobile phone due out later this year.
Sounds enticing. I’d like to hear from iPhone users if they are going to make the switch? Any takers?

“I’d like to hear from iPhone users if they are going to make the switch?”
Isn’t that a little unrealistic at this stage? Surely anyone who says they’re going to make the switch based on a rumor without photos, reviews, specs or other concrete details is someone you shouldn’t take seriously?
This is even more true when you factor in that users of Apple hardware are almost religious in their devotion to the ‘i’ hardware.
You have a valid point Melvyn.
I should have phrased the question more appropriately – “Assuming this Google Dream phone from HTC becomes available later this year, which iPhone users out there would consider making the switch?”
I am interested in hearing if that devotion you refer to is toward Apple itself (a la Mac users), or is it to the latest and greatest tech gadget? It will be interesting to watch.
