Save on Textbooks from Your Mobile Phone

Many of us remember paying anywhere from $75 – $125 and up to buy a single textbook from the on-campus bookstore. That left very little room in the budget for Milwaukee’s Best, but we all managed.

Today, the only people still schlopping to the college bookstore are first-born kids with parents that don’t know any better. Be smart, and save money with today’s alternatives to the expensive college bookstores. Today’s mobile website, Direct Textbook allows you to search some 200 online bookstores for price and availability. Browse the site from your phone, and it will auto-detect your device and present the mobile version of the website.

Another option is to use their Twitter service to check the price using the ISBN number of the textbook. Once you follow them, simply send the ISBN as a reply to them via Twitter. For example, you could send them ‘@textbook 9780385418492′.

You’ll then receive a direct message back to your Twitter account showing the lowest price it found, and a link to a page that shows availability and prices. My Twitter response came back in less than 20 seconds, and I found out the book was available for as low as $2.51.

Definitely worth a look for all those students (and parents) out there!

Sadly, many people still don’t know about these advances and continue to do it the old way that they knew how. Or some know it but still prefer to stick to the old ways. :(

Till then,

Jean

Great site. I will most definitely have to check this one out – great alternative for those who don’t have smart phones, but do have access to the mobile web.

You know…. I personally can’t believe the number of college students that just take the lazy approach and purchase their books from the bookstore, I know this because I am a college student and I see this every semester, as the bookstore is filled with students ready to overpay at the bookstore.. You’d be amazed at when I tell people that I bought the same book for significantly less online, that right then and there they are in a lot of shock.
