Send An Anonymous Text Message

It is Friday, so let’s look at a mobile service that we can have some fun with.

AnonTxt.com provides a free service where users can send an anonymous text message to any mobile phone. It’s a very simple service, where the user enters the 10-digit phone number, a subject, and the message itself. There is no charge for this basic service, and it also lets you include an alias that will display as the sender of the message.

Clearly, there is an opportunity for abuse of this service, and we hope that is not a common occurrence. To cover themselves, the site does include a Terms of Service that prohibits use of the service to promote spam, viruses, or other unsavory items. Below is an excerpt from the AnonTxt.com Terms of Service.

6. A user may not (in any way whatsoever) use the Site to transmit: spam, junk email, bulk email, promotions, or other solicitations, content that includes any advertising or marketing materials, content that may be deemed unlawful, threatening, harassing, racist, abusive, libelous, pornographic, vulgar, defamatory, obscene, indecent, or otherwise inappropriate, including any messages consituting or encouraging criminal conduct, content that violates or infringes on the legal rights or copyrights of others, viruses, bugs, worms, or any other computer code that may harm a network, computer, server, hardware, software, or telephone equipment. Please do not do anything stupid while using our service!

7. A user also agrees not to use the Site to attempt to or stalk another person or impersonate another person or entity.

For those outside the States, AnonTxt.com also offers a free international version, in which the user must select from a long list of international mobile carriers.
