New Mobile Glossary The 5 Minute Mother’s Day Solution, Mobile Style

You Will Toss Your Mac for your iPhone

May 6th, 2007 MobileFreak

Emily over at Textually.org just highlighted a very interesting trend in Japan, where the majority of the younger generation are now using mobile phones to the point where they don’t use a computer at all. It’s well documented how Asian countries including Japan and South Korea are significantly advanced in terms of mobile phone technology and usage. In terms of mobile adoption, Asia is typically about two years ahead of the UK, and about three to four years ahead of the US.

Is this another mobile trend that will transfer over to those western countries? Will our high school graduates in the US be using their iPhone or other mobile device in place of a Mac or PC?

Absolutely! The large majority of day-to-day computing activities for teenagers and many twenty-somethings today consists of email, IM, and web browsing. Why lug around a laptop to do those things when you won’t have to? We won’t, of course.

Just as the desktop is becoming a relic of the past for most tasks as the laptop reigns supreme, the days of the laptop dominating day-to-day computing tasks are numbered as well.

What about you? Would you be willing to toss your Mac or PC for your cell phone? What about two years from now?
